Pondicherry is a white city and was ruled by the Dutch, Portuguese, British and French ancestry. It’s affectionately called Pondy. Formal name of Pondicherry is set as “Puducherry”, from 2006. In Pondicherry, there is a lot of historic monuments collection and this place is a standard tourer destination in South Asian country. Town has many churches , temples and statues that is combined with systematic urban planning. Excellent tourist places in Pondicherry are 3 beaches, those are Promenade beach (better-known regionally as Rocky beach), Auroville beach and serenity beach. Pondicherry is well known for Sri Aurobindo Ashram, which is on marine street, is the best and wealthiest ashrams among Asian countries.

Heritage buildings

Auroville (City of Dawn) is set 8Km from north-west of Pondicherry. In town, heritage buildings and monuments are set round promenade beach like the children’s park , Dupleix sculpture, Le café, Gandhi sculpture, National leader sculpture, French war memorial, Nineteenth century light house, Bharathi park, Governors palace, Romain Rolland library, general assembly, Pondicherry repository and moreover French Institute of Pondicherry at saint-louis street.

Tourist places

Besides these places, Botanical garden is in south direction, nearer to bus stand, Chunnambar boat house on Cuddalore highway which is just 8 Km from Pondicherry are further amusing and convenient. On top of all Tourist places, traditional places would be Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar Devasthanam which could be a prestigious Hindu temple, that homes lord ganesh. Sri Manakula Vinayagar Temple has been breathing before French came and was settled in Pondicherry before 1666. According to sasthra, lord ganesh is known to be with sixteen sorts of names in several forms and in Pondicherry this god is facing the geographic area. Another traditional temple which is being familiar is Thirukaameeswarar temple that come across a rural city is referred to as Villianur and its ancient name is Vilvanallur and it is almost 10 km from Pondicherry city towards Villupuram.
